STORY 4
More than friends, part III

5-star restaurant, exquisite food, charming atmosphere and elegant jazz music. No doubt that Soul and Maka's date going on the right start.

When Soul rode with Maka on his back to the restaurant, she just couldn't believe where they were going to have dinner. Her face had lightened like a Christmas tree. Even brighter when she saw the inside of it. She felt as if she was in an enchanting dream castle. Soul looking at the brighten face was more than enough to raise his fanged but cool smile, happy to have satisfied her to this point.

Sitting at the table, Soul and Maka had just finished their dinner. The young blond meister was curiously looking at the menu for something to drink. A pair of crimson eyes couldn't wave from her elegance. Catching his gaze's attention, she blushed fiercely and couldn't help noticing his smile from his corner.

"You look magnificent tonight, Maka." He said in a husky and almost seductive voice.

"T-thanks." She smiled back, but her heart raced a thousand miles per second looking at him.

She couldn't believe it was the same Soul was stood in front of him. Well-dressed, smelling good and so charming and dreamy with his fanged smile. And on top of that, the 5-star restaurant to top it off. She could say it out loud. Her date was by far the coolest.

"Soul?" she said.

"Yeah?"

She smiled at him; this time making him slightly blushed. It wasn't very noticeable, but she knew. "I can't believe you did this, all of this."

"You don't like it?"

"Are you crazy? I love it!" She said holding his hand. "Thank you, Soul."

The white-haired scythe tightened her fingers in his hand. He loved how the warmth of them laced with his palm. The music suddenly turned its rhythm into something more lovely and romantic, something lovers could waltz on. Soul's smile and looked at Maka, clueless of what was behind his mind.

He rose from his chair and walker to her. He extended his hand, "May I have this dance?"
Maka wasn't a good dance and her face turning a new shade of red proved it. Soul knew that, but reassured her as he leaned to her face and landed a kiss on her temple.
"It's okay." He whispered to her ear. "I got you." She landed her hand in his and let him take her to the dance floor.

The two of them waltzed to the music. Dark-olive eyes to ruby ones, hypnotized in each other. Maka was coated in Soul's warm, as if it was the warmest coat. Soul looked at her resting her head on his chest. She was beautiful, he thought. But many words came to describe: meister, friend, best friend, even lover and… perhaps girlfriend. She wasn't a knocker like Blair or attractive or that sort. She was just… beautiful. She was a bookworm, sometimes whining, hardheaded and always Maka-chopping him, yet she was sweet, gentle, always there for those she cared, strong and determined and most importantly, she had always been there for him. That sweet innocent smile. For Soul, it was his most precious treasure. And he couldn't bear living without it

"I'm sorry." He said after being lost in that romantic vibe.

Maka raised his eyes to him. "Huh? Why?"

"I'm sorry… I should have done this a long time ago."

Maka remained speechless to his words. Her sweet smiled then appeared, the same Soul cherished so much. "It was worth waiting for."

"Then…" He said. "Allow me to never make you wait. Because… I don't care if it sounds uncool, but…" He stopped.

"Soul?"

"I just can't have this beautiful thing I'm holding in my arms right now belonging to someone else than me. And I can't lose that smile of yours either. And more than that, living without you would be the death of me because you, Maka, make every day worth living. And I just…"

He was interrupted by her. But not by words. A sweet and delicious pair of lips that landed of his. It tasted like cinnamon and cherry. Definitely from her dessert. But the feeling inside, as Soul felt, like love in the shape of a volcano, times 1000. Soul's lips engaged onto the kiss from the surprise as his mind bathed in love.

She loved him. And he loved her.

Maka slowly parted away and looked into his warm eyes. Soul couldn't just believe it.
"You…"

Maka nodded her head. "I love you, Soul. For a long time actually... I just thought I... I wasn't your type. But now I know..." Soul couldn't help but smile at this news. But Maka continued. "I was always afraid of knowing love because I didn't want to end like my parents. But you're you, Soul. I can't count the numbers of times you were there for me, put your life on the line for me and even went with my plans, no matter how boring they were. You were always there for me. And most of all, I always liked that smile of yours. It never lied to me, not once."

"Cool guys don't lie and cheat."

He smiled and held the tightly against him. "And… I love you too, Maka."

The two of them resumed their kissing, in the middle of the dance floor without noticing that some people were actually looking at them and even applauding their romantic scene. Their date was a success.

The couple entered their home. Sahn's car was absent. His date with Mariciel wasn't finished yet. But it was late. And Soul and Maka were pretty tired from their evening together. Nonetheless, only good memories would be remembered from it.

Maka and Soul stood at the stairs, one would go to the basement, the other upstairs.

"Thank you, Soul. It was beautiful tonight."

"It's all cool." He winked at her."

"So…" She added with a pale blush on her face, lowering her eyes. "Does that mean that, you and me, are…"

Soul couldn't get enough of her silliness. But he loved his new girlfriend just the way she was. He wouldn't have it any other way.

He climbed the steps and kissed, lifting her in his arms. "What do you think, silly? Of course I'm your boyfriend." He did his signature sharp grin.

"Just wanted to make sure." She said childishly before kissing him again. "Off to bed, you."

"All right, all right…"

"Hey, Soul?"

"Hmm?"

"I love you." She gave him that smile he loved so much.

Soul looked at her with the warmest of smiles. "I love you too, Maka."
